Group Brand Development Manager in Maxol Talks About Supporting Parks Tennis

Fergal Harrington Tells Us Why Maxol Is Happy To Support Parks Tennis This Summer!

I’ve been playing tennis since I was about 5 or 6 years old. During the summers Parks Tennis would have been taking place at many of the different clubs and parks around Ireland.

Parks Tennis is an organisation that has been running for 40 years, so it’s well known, it’s had great success and has brought a lot of new players, and a lot of great players through the system. And coaches I might add.

Maxol got involved in 2014, we met with the Parks Tennis team. We fairly quickly realised that there was a good fit between ourselves and Parks Tennis. Maxol wanted to get involved in Parks Tennis because Parks Tennis is community organised. It’s at grass-roots level. It takes place in 150 locations around Ireland and Maxol has the opportunity to help promote this. It’s a very good initiative. It’s about kids having fun, it’s about kids getting healthy. It’s about sport. It’s an opportunity for kids to learn a sport that they can play their whole life. Tennis is relatively unique in that kids can play tennis all through into a much older age. So no matter what your level you can find a programme for you.

I play tennis still. I play tennis 2 to 3 times a week. I also play competitive level in the Dublin League, I play at class 2 level generally. I’m also in the over 35s and I play in the top division, class 1 level. I love playing tennis. I think tennis is great fun, you can play singles, you can play doubles. The beauty of tennis is that in a very short period of time (typically we play for about an hour, an hour-and-a-half) you can get a good workout. But it doesn’t have to be too tiring. You can put into it as much as you like, and you can get out of it as much as you like.
